Felsina Rancia Riserva 2010

100% Sangiovese – An outstanding Chianti Classico
Riserva DOCG

The ‘Gallo Nero’ was certainly crowing in the vineyards around Castelnuovo Berardenga in 2010 when Felsina harvested their Sangiovese to produce this undeniably top Chianti Classico Riserva. Picked by hand in the first half of October, they definitely got the timing right.

ON THE EYE

It’s an appealing garnet gem.

ON THE NOSE

Having passed its first 6-8months in stainless steel vats, then 12-18 months in new small barrels and finally 8 months in bottle before release, no wonder its scent is intense and instantly captivating. Mature red berry fruit with a fruit liqueur kick combine with creamy white chocolate and a toasty note of coffee beans to rise up and then linger… in a ‘cotton like’ texture.

ON THE PALATE

The Rancia Riserva 2010 has got really great structure. Dry and full bodied with beautifully integrated acidity, tannins and minerality. Balance, elegance and persistence. Wow. Ticking all the boxes, this wine is ‘unputdownable’.

While it may be ready now, this is evolutionary material with plenty more to come.

For those who have the will power to lay the Rancia 2010 down for another 5 years, more power to your elbow.

For those of you like us, it remains a classic ‘unputdownable’. Just like the richly sophisticated, inspirational,
organic new vintage sound
of the unique Ròisìn Murphy.
