The future is certainly bright for one of Italy’s most important native whites. It’s February 2016 and during last weeks vintage preview the Vernaccia di San Gimignano Consorzio declared the 2015 vintage to be ‘Excellent’. Even though we’ve got plenty to look forward to, there’s still plenty to enjoy from vintages past including
Fontaleoni’s Riserva 2010. Marvel-lush stuff !!
Luminous yellow gold. You know this kind of luminosity already fills us with great anticipation because it’s a marker that this wine’s freshness is still enduring as it evolves.
On the nose it’s full on intense, complex and mighty damn fine we’d say. With colour co-ordinated aromas, we’re talking rich yellow floral notes, stone fruit yellow fleshed peach, breadcrust and the most delicate sweet perfume of lemon zest.
Dry, full bodied with that much anticipated fresh acidity kicking against a pronounced yet balanced mineral beat. How tasty is this. Acidity clears the palate so elegantly. There is absolutely nothing straightforward about this characterful Riserva. It’s alluring, it’s delicate yet still got that attention grabbing lush acidity.
It’s all about dedication, something which FONTALEONI and the local Consorzio di Vernaccia di San Gimignano have plenty of. Happily this native Tuscan grape is once again taking its place at the wine world’s top table.
And with his aptly titled song, we’re sure it won’t be long before it all comes to FRUITION for ROB BRAVERY.
